Velogic Eco Corner: Turning Waste into Worth

At Velogic, sustainability is not only about the commitments we make. It is also about creating practical ways for our people to contribute to a more responsible use of resources.

This is the purpose behind the re-launch of the Velogic Eco Corner at the Mer Rouge Head Office, a dedicated space where employees can actively participate in our Circular Economy initiatives.

The Eco Corner supports the collection and responsible segregation of selected recyclable materials, including coffee capsules, batteries and e-waste, used cooking oil, aluminium cans, paper and cardboard, and PET bottles. Dedicated displays now also show where these materials go at end-of-life and the collaborators involved in their recycling, recovery or reuse.

By making this journey visible, the Eco Corner helps employees understand what happens to the materials they bring in, from collection and sorting through to their next use or end-of-life treatment.

Turning Waste into Worth

The Eco Corner provides employees with an opportunity to contribute directly to the Circular Economy by giving selected materials a pathway beyond disposal.

Collected materials are directed to identified recycling, recovery and reuse partners, helping valuable resources find a second life and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

During FY2025/2026, Velogic strengthened its circular economy approach by improving waste segregation, expanding recycling streams and enhancing traceability across its subsidiaries. 7.3 tonnes of waste were diverted from landfill, while 41 truck batteries, weighing 1,288 kg, were responsibly recycled.

Engine oil recycling reached 19,500 litres, alongside 12 litres of cooking oil, bringing the combined cooking and engine oil figure to 19,512 litres.

At the Mer Rouge Head Office, improved segregation, collection points and employee awareness have also helped strengthen paper waste management and recovery.

The Eco Corner provides a visible connection between these actions and their outcome. From the moment a material is deposited, employees can see how it is channelled towards recycling, recovery or reuse, and the collaborators involved in giving these materials a new purpose.

Small actions can help close the loop.

Powering a Greener Tomorrow

While the Eco Corner focuses on Circular Economy, it forms part of Velogic’s wider sustainability journey, which also includes the transition towards lower-carbon operations through renewable energy, electrification and smarter energy use.

During FY2025/FY2026, Velogic continued to advance its energy transition, including through the operation of a 1 MW Solar PV System, which generated 1,490.848 MWh of clean electricity, contributing to electricity consumption coverage between June 2025 and July 2026. It also contributed to 1,907.34 tCO₂e of emissions avoided, equivalent to approximately 104,141 trees planted.

Electrification is also progressing across our operations, with 22.6% of equipment in operation being electric. These initiatives demonstrate how renewable energy generation and electrification can support the transition towards lower-carbon operations.

Everyday choices also contribute to responsible energy use. Employees can help by switching off lights, air conditioning and equipment when not in use, making better use of natural light, using air conditioning responsibly, keeping doors and windows closed when AC is running, and unplugging chargers and electrical devices when they are no longer needed.

Protecting Our Biodiversity

Our sustainability journey also extends beyond our operations to the protection of nature and the ecosystems around us.

During FY2025/2026, Velogic continued to support biodiversity through indigenous planting, community partnerships and initiatives supporting pollinators. At the Mer Rouge Head Office, 12 indigenous plants were introduced, supporting local biodiversity and raising awareness of Mauritius’ native species.

Through SUKPAK Ltd, Velogic also supports local beekeepers by repurposing sugar waste to help sustain beehives when natural food sources are scarce. During FY2025/2026, 14 local beekeepers and around 200 beehives were supported.

These initiatives demonstrate how circular solutions can create impact beyond waste management, supporting Mauritius’ unique biodiversity, essential pollinators and local livelihoods.

Understanding Our Carbon Footprint

Understanding our environmental impact is another important part of Velogic’s sustainability journey.

During FY2025/2026, Velogic completed its fifth consecutive carbon footprint assessment, strengthening the way we measure and manage emissions across the Group.

Our FY2025/2026 carbon reporting recorded a total footprint of 74,356 tCO₂e, comprising:

  • Scope 1 – 3,534 tCO₂e: Direct emissions
  • Scope 2 – 1,369 tCO₂e: Indirect emissions from purchased energy
  • Scope 3 – 69,451 tCO₂e: Other indirect emissions across the value chain

The FY2025/2026 reporting also benefited from an enhanced methodology, including the integration of INOVA and UPS shipment emissions for more comprehensive ESG reporting. The reported changes in emissions included increased Scope 3 emissions associated with upstream and downstream freight, reduced Scope 2 emissions linked to electricity consumption, and increased Scope 1 emissions associated with fuel consumption, refrigerant gases and LPG combustion categories.

Understanding where our emissions come from is an important step towards making better-informed decisions and identifying opportunities to progressively reduce our environmental footprint.

Part of a Wider Sustainability Journey

The Eco Corner forms part of Velogic’s wider Sustainability & Inclusiveness journey.

During FY2025/2026, the Sustainability & Inclusiveness Department strengthened Velogic’s sustainability governance through the development of the Velogic Sustainability & Inclusiveness Strategic Framework 2026–2029, the ER CAP29 Action Plan, the definition of strategic priorities and engagement with Senior Management, as well as the establishment of departmental KPIs.

The 2026–2029 strategic framework focuses on four key strategies:

  1. Sustainability Governance & Oversight
  2. Sustainability in our Operations
  3. Biodiversity and Ecosystems
  4. Social Initiatives

Through initiatives such as the Eco Corner, Velogic continues to translate its sustainability commitments into practical activities within its operations, giving employees opportunities to contribute to more responsible resource use and environmental management.

Making Circular Economy Visible

The re-launched Eco Corner brings the principles of the Circular Economy into the workplace in a practical and visible way.

By showing what happens to the materials collected, where they go at end-of-life and which collaborators contribute to their recycling, recovery or reuse, the Eco Corner makes the journey of waste easier to understand.

From separating waste correctly and bringing eligible recyclable materials to the Eco Corner, to making more conscious choices about energy and resources, employees have an important role to play in supporting Velogic’s sustainability journey.

The Eco Corner is therefore more than a collection point. It is a practical example of how responsible resource management, collaboration and employee participation can help turn waste into value.
